Frequently Asked Questions
About fwisp
What is fwisp?
fwisp is a place where you can discover, share and submit great articles, news and videos gathered from all over the web. We focus on topics such as personal finance, education & career, business & economy, investing & retirement, real estate and everything else related to finance & economics. The main tenacity of this site is to provide fresh, visitor-sourced quality content for everyone to discover, share and enjoy.
How is fwisp different?
The most important component of fwisp is you, the reader. Everything within the site is crowd-sourced by our visitors. While other sharing websites robotically harvest content and spit out millions of spam-infested pages, fwisp hands over the controls to our users. We value everybody's opinion the same – you won't find power users here. Anyone has the authority to control the content. By voting links up and down, readers like you can influence the flow and hopefully keep fwisp full of interesting and useful information.
What's in it for me?
Bloggers, need traffic? Share your wonderful articles, news & videos on fwisp and get better exposure in the form of backlinks, comments, subscriptions and repeat visitors to your website. Readers, fwisp offers an easy way of discovering relevant information which is strictly crowdsource-controlled. We have employed the power of other social networks such as Twitter and Facebook to help you share content and expand your horizons.
Human Rights Watch Donations
We want to help make this world a better place for everybody. As of January 1st of 2011, 10% of all advertising revenue on fwisp will be donated to the Human Rights Watch Foundation: one of the world's leading independent organizations dedicated to defending and protecting human rights.
Using fwisp & general guidelines
How does fwisp work?
The keyword here is sharing: after a simple registration, you will be able to post your stuff on the site in no time! Submitting a link is easy as 1-2-3. All you have to do is login and click on 'Submit a new story'. The procedure from there on is pretty straightforward. While logged in, you can also vote articles up/down, comment on links and also save stories you like (it is like adding a bookmark).
Why do I have to register?
Besides the benefit of eliminating automatic posting by spammers, registering provides you with some great advantages: you can add detailed information about yourself and your website to your profile; you can also connect your Twitter account directly and your tweets will automatically appear on your summary page for others to see and click on. Also, you will be able to comment on links under your name and vote in polls.
What can be submitted?
We are working hard to keep fwisp free of spam: this includes links to landing pages, autoblogs, article directories and other clever stuff some people use to promote their sites. Our website is all about finances: this includes personal finances (credit cards, debt, loans, mortgages, frugal living, insurance, investments, retirement & savings, student loans, taxes & IRS, FICO), work & career, marketing, sales, corporate finances and HR.
What are the submissions limitations and why?
Thanks to various automated submission scripts, bots and cheap outsourced labor we are facing tons of junk links on a daily basis. Therefore, we try to make it really hard for spammers to infest the site. We require all users to register and validate via email before submitting links. New users who have not yet established a track record are also moderated – everything they submit or comment on is held for review before it is published. If you submit quality links, you will quickly be approved and those limitations are permanently removed for your account.
Is it OK to have multiple accounts?
There is no reason to have more than one account per person.
Problems
I didn't receive my activation email
Many times these emails get stuck in you Junk email folder. Check you spam emails and you might find the activation email there. Also, it might take some times for the email to arrive – your message goes through many servers before it reaches your mailbox and this process is sometimes slow.
I can't login – my password is not accepted.
Make sure your CAPS LOCK is off. Passwords are CasE SENsitivE. Also, your account must be validated vie the email link we have emailed you after the registration. You can also try to reset your password by using the forgotten password function.
My story was deleted, why?
We are working hard to keep fwisp free of spam: this includes links to landing pages, autoblogs, article directories and other clever stuff some people use to promote their sites. Our website is all about finances: this includes personal finance, credit cards, debt, loans, mortgages, frugal living, insurance, investments, retirement & savings, student loans, taxes & IRS, FICO, work & career, marketing, sales, corporate finances and HR. We will not accept submissions that lead to all-commercial websites, article directories (HubPages, EzineArticles etc.) and blogs infested with ads. We check our links and our moderators can sense spammers from miles away.
The website is all messed up / something doesn't work
While we often update code in the background, it may appear that the site is broken. We mostly fix these things right away. Try refreshing the page a couple of times or deleting your cookies & browser cache. Also, we don't support ancient browsers such as Internet Explorer 6 so if you are still stuck in 1999 please update your software. You will also need to have cookies and Java enabled.
I still can't resolve my problem or I have other questions / comments / suggestions.
